Gannon Claims Three Major PSAC Awards, Orten Repeats as Athlete of the Year

Colton selected PSAC West Coach of the Year for third straight season

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference today announced its men's soccer postseason awards with Gannon not only well represented, but nearly sweeping the major awards for a third straight year. Gannon received three of the four major awards for the 2025 All-PSAC West Men's Soccer Teams while a total of eight Golden Knights earned all-conference awards. Seven Gannon players were honored in each of the previous two years.

Head coach Billy Colton was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year for the third straight year and fourth time overall. Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) repeated as the Athlete of the Year while Enzo Rekka (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Gymnasium of the Catholic School Centre "Sveti Franjo") was selected the Freshman of the Year. Lock Haven's Danny Ogan was voted the Defensive Athlete of the Year.

Gannon had seven first-team honorees. They included Orten, Rekka, Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/), Andre Moraes (Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil/Colegio Singular), Jensen Peake (Staffordshire, England), Gonzalo Perez (Madrid, Spain/Virgen de Europa), and Shota Toyama (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama). Frederik Paulsen (Odense, Denmark/Oure Kostgymnasium) earned a spot on the second team.

Colton and Orten are now in rarified air in the PSAC. Colton is the first coach to earn Coach of the Year three straight years. He has guided the Golden Knights to seven straight wins and an 11-2-4 record overall. That includes an 8-0-2 ledger in the Western Division. Gannon has now gone undefeated in 31 straight Western Division regular season matches.

Gannon will host the PSAC Final Four on Friday, Nov. 14 with the Golden Knights facing West Chester. Friday's semifinal winners play for the PSAC Championship on Sunday. Gannon is currently 15th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Div. II Top 25 and sixth in the Atlantic Region poll. Colton's squad ranks second in Div. II in goals with 57.

Orten is one of the most highly-decorated players in Gannon men's soccer history. A senior midfielder from Orsta, Norway, he is the first player to earn PSAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year in back-to-back years since Jeremy Deighton of Slippery Rock in 2008-09. In addition, he is just the third Golden Knight to earn first team All-PSAC honors, joining Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000) (2021-24) and Robbie Bennett (2011-14).

A two-time All-American, Orten leads the Golden Knights in goals (14), assists (12) and points (40). He also paces the PSAC in all three categories. He leads Division II in points per game (2.35) and is third in assists per game (0.71). He has climbed into second place in career assists at Gannon with 46 and is tied for eighth in career points with 110.

Rekka continues a trend for Gannon with Freshmen of the Year. This marks the third time in the last four years a Golden Knight has claimed the honor. A forward from Tuzia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, he is tied for second on the team in points with 29 while ranking second in assists (11). In fact, he is second in the PSAC in assists and fifth nationally, one spot behind Orten.

Moraes has now been selected the first team goalkeeper the last two years. The redshirt junior from Brazil has taken over as Gannon's starter the second half of the season, in all starting ten matches. He has an 8-1-2 record with a 1.07 GAA and a pair of shutouts. He has shared two other shutouts.

The rest of Gannon's All-PSAC performers are all first-time honorees. Seniors Shota Toyama (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama) and Gonzalo Perez (Madrid, Spain/Virgen de Europa) are standouts in the midfield and at defender, respectively. Toyama, a native of Japan, has contributed 4 goals and 5 assists for 13 points along with providing strong defense.

Speaking of defense, Perez took over as the back line of defense for Corti and has helped the Golden Knights record eight shutouts while allowing just 18 goals. The native of Spain contributed one goal on the offensive end.

Hyde has provided the Golden Knights high-scoring offense with another big-time threat. From Brazil, the junior forward is second on the team in goals with 10, adding nine assists, and is tied with Rekka with 29 points.

Peake and Paulsen joined Perez on the back wall. A junior defender, Peake is in his first season as a Golden Knight after transferring from Lake Tahoe CC. He has 2 goals and 4 assists for 8 points.

Paulsen is a freshman defender from Denmark. He has 2 goals for 4 points.
