No. 7 Women's Soccer cruises past UPJ in weather-shortened win

The No. 7 Gannon women's soccer team continued its unbeaten season Wednesday night, cruising to a 4–0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown at McConnell Family Stadium before the match was called in the 72nd minute due to lightning in the area. Per NCAA rules, a match is considered official after 70 minutes of play.

The Golden Knights (13-0-1, 9-0-1 PSAC West) clinched their spot in the PSAC Tournament with last Saturday's 2–1 win at California (Pa.), joining Slippery Rock and IUP as the only three teams in the PSAC West to secure postseason berths so far, and kept momentum rolling with a dominant all-around performance.

Gannon erupted for three first-half goals before adding one more in the second to pull away from the visiting Mountain Cats (2-6-4, 2-6-2 PSAC West).

Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell) opened the scoring in the 13th minute off an assist from Olivia Dixon (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), followed by Bella Prince's (Bradford,Pa./Bradford Area) first career goal in the 17th minute to make it 2–0.

June Monasterio (Bilbao, Spain/Claret Askartza) extended the lead two minutes later off a feed from Jessie Watkins (Bowie, Md./Bowie), and Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) capped the scoring in the 54th minute, finishing another pass from Watkins, who led all players with two assists on the night.

Dixon also added an assist while Emanuel paced the Knights with seven shots and four on goal.

Gannon out-shot UPJ 24-3 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks while Morgan Sinan (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) made three saves to earn her third shutout of the season.
