Paulsen, Wake Named Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Thanks to the efforts of this week's Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week the men's soccer and volleyball teams maintained their places at the top of the PSAC West rankings. Frederik Paulsen (Odense, Denmark/Oure Kostgymnasium) of the men's soccer team and Sydney Wake (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) from the volleyball team have been selected as the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of October 19. This marks the seventh week honoring Gannon's Student-Athlete of the Week and encompasses events through Sunday.

Paulsen helped the Gannon men's soccer team accomplish a first in 2025 – win back-to-back matches. The freshman defender accounted for his first two career goals as the Golden Knights won at D'Youville 3-2 then improved to 3-0-2 in the Western Division with a 4-0 win at California (Pa.) on Saturday.

A native of Odense, Denmark, both of Paulsen's goals came at Cal. He accounted for the first goal of the game, and his first career score, in the 11th minute then came back with a second goal less than seven minutes later. Gannon is now 6-2-4 with five matches remaining in the regular season.

Wade was the latest volleyball player to take center stage as the Golden Knights improved to 16-4 overall and 7-0 in the PSAC West with back-to-back 3-0 sweeps of California (Pa.) and Seton Hill.

A junior right side hitter, the native of Massillon, Ohio totaled 11 kills and an impressive .455 hitting percentage in Friday night's win over Cal. She added a block solo and a block assist. On Saturday she added nine kills with a .318 hitting percentage vs. Seton Hill, along with two block assists. For the week Wake hit .386 with 20 kills in 44 total attempts.
