CALIFORNIA, PA - Just as they did against the Vulcans in their home opener a few weeks back, the No. 7 Gannon womens soccer team had to scratch and claw their way to the finish line against Cal (PA). GU would score the opening goal five minutes into the game when freshman Maddie Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) found the back of the net.

The Vulcans would tie the score just six minutes later, but when a foul was called in the crease, Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell) made quick work of the ensuing penalty kick, and the Golden Knights controlled play from there to sweep the season series and remain unblemished in the loss column heading into another week of PSAC play.

THE KNIGHT CAP
  • PK, Have it Your Way: Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell) had scored just two goals in her first ten games. She now has two in her last three, scoring on what would be the game winning penalty kick midway through the first half.
  • Controlling the Game: Gannon outshot the Vulcans 16-2 in the game. It's a similar storyline to the last time the two teams met earlier this year: Gannon had a 35-0 shot edge in that contest as well.
  • A Freshman, In Name Only: Since Maddie Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) cracked the starting lineup, she has made clear she deserves to stay. With another goal today, the freshman defender has three goals in her last four games, and four total on the campaign.
  • Apple: Victoria Wheeler (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) added an assist on the Miller goal just five minutes into the game.
  • Season Sweep: Gannon sweeps Cal (PA) on the season with results of 1-0 and 2-1.
  • Lockdown Defense: Goalkeeper Morgan Sinan (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) needed just one save in the game to secure the win, as the GU defense yielded just two shots in the win.
