Gannon Wins for 12th Straight Time, 108-71 over California (Pa.)

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's basketball team topped the 100-point mark for the sixth time in 2024-25 and posted its largest margin of victory ever against California (Pa.) as the Golden Knights handed the Vulcans a 108-71 defeat.

Gannon has now run off 12 straight victories after opening the season with back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked teams to improve to 12-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the PSAC West. Cal dropped to 7-8 and 2-5 in conference play while losing for the eighth time in nine games.

The Golden Knights, ranked 17th in the latest D2CSC rankings, were playing for the second time in three days while making their last appearance at Cathedral Prep's Hagerty Family Events Center. Since moving to their home-away from home due to renovations to the Highmark Events Center in January 2024 the Golden Knights are undefeated at home, going 21-0. Combined with the women's team Gannon did not lose a game at the Hagerty Family Events Center, finishing a combined 42-0.

Cal was chosen the PSAC Western Division favorite in the preseason poll but the Vulcans have been sapped by numerous injuries to key players and proved to be no match for an emerging Golden Knights squad.

The Vulcans never led in the game as Gannon built a double-figure lead for good with just under six minutes to play. A 13-3 run built the margin to 21 points late in the first half and Gannon took a 52-34 lead into halftime.

Cal pulled no closer than 15 points in the second half as Gannon made 10-of-17 3-pointers over the final 20 minutes. That point came at 58-43 and was followed by ten straight points for the Golden Knights.

Gannon will look for a 13th-straight win on Wednesday, January 8 traveling to Indiana (Pa.) for the first of back-to-back road games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) came out and hit back-to-back 3-pointers and the Golden Knights were off and running. Gannon never trailed in the game, building a double-figure lead for good with just under six minutes to play. A 13-3 run built the margin to 21 points late in the first half. Freshmen accounted for most of the points in the run. Prosser hit a pair of free throws and later made a 3-pointers. Mason Kemp (Shawnee, Kan./Mill Valley) converted two free throw attempts and Lucas Sekasi (Washington, DC/Jackson-Reed) hit a short jumper. Tasman Goodrick (Sydney, Australia/St. Joseph's College) ended the run with back-to-back baskets. Gannon took a 52-34 lead into halftime.

Cal pulled no closer than 15 points in the second half as Gannon made 10-of-17 3-pointers over the final 20 minutes. That point came at 58-43 and was followed by ten straight points for the Golden Knights. Prosser hit two 3-pointers and Goodrick scored twice to account for the 10 points. Gannon outscored the Vulcans 56-37 in the second half.

The only question left was would the Golden Knights reach 100 points. Bruce Carpenter (Fayetteville, Ga./McIntosh) made that happen with a foul line jumper with 1:42 left.

BY THE NUMBERS
Gannon shot 54.1 percent from the floor (40-of-74), the first time over 50 percent in the last six games. They made a season-high 16 3-pointers in 30 attempts, going 10-of-17 from beyond the arc in the second half. Gannon was a near-perfect 12-for-13 from the foul line. Cal, meanwhile, finished at 35.6 percent from the floor (26-of-73), but made just 6-of-30 3-pointers. The Vulcans were 13-of-16 at the line.

Both teams committed 22 turnovers and for a rare time the points off turnovers weren't hugely in Gannon's favor. But the Golden Knights did dominate on the glass, 47-34, leading to a 17-8 advantage in second chance points.

Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) led Gannon with a season-high 27 points. The freshman guard continues to fill up the stat sheet. He made 9-of-13 3-pointers, including 6-of-9 3-pointers, and was 3-of-3 at the line. In addition, he pulled down five rebounds, had four assists and two steals. It was third game with 20-or-more points.

Tasman Goodrick (Sydney, Australia/St. Joseph's College) also reached the 20-point mark. After finishing with 23 points and 20 rebounds on Thursday vs. West Virginia State the 6-foot-9 sophomore went for 20 points and 13 boards vs. Cal. It was his eighth double-double of the season. He made 8-of-11 field goals and all four of his free throw attempts.

Ernest Shelton (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) fell just shy of giving Gannon a third 20-point scorer as the sophomore guard finished with 19 points. He also bombed away from beyond the 3-point line making 5-of-9 attempts. Shelton added four rebounds and three blocked shots.

Lucas Sekasi (Washington, DC/Jackson-Reed) gave Gannon a fourth player in double digits as the freshman guard had 12 points and a game-high seven assists.

Victor Desmond (Onalaska, Wisc./Onalaska) continues to round into form after missing eight games with an injury. The 6-foot-7 junior college transfer had seven points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals.
