Gannon Wins Three of Four Duals at Ursinus Duals

Golden Knights set season record for dual wins

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gannon women's wrestling team won three of four matches while competing in the Ursinus Duals on Sunday. The Golden Knights were competing for the first time in 2025.

Gannon opened the day with a 47-0 win over Misericordia, winning each of the five matches that were competed by bonus points. Next was a 39-6 win over York (Pa.).

That set up a showdown between two nationally-ranked teams with Gannon coming in ranked 18th by The Open Mat and 22nd by the NWCA and East Stroudsburg ranked 17th and 15th, respectively. The Warriors would edge the Golden Knights 25-21, handing Gannon its first loss of the season.

Gannon ended the day with a 47-2 win over Muhlenberg. They conclude the day with a 10-1 record. That's the most wins ever for the Golden Knights. Twice before Gannon had won eight duals in a season.

Gannon came up just short of upsetting East Stroudsburg and remaining undefeated. Three bouts featured nationally-ranked wrestlers pitted against each other. Kat Pendergrass (Bracey, Va./South Granville (N.C.)), ranked 16th by The Open Matt, handed No. 20 Emily Klein a 6-4 defeat at 110 lbs.. But No. 19 Olivia Palmer won by fall over No. 16 Brielle Larsen (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) at 117 lbs. and Nyla Burgess (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering High School), ranked 13th at 160 lbs., narrowly lost to fifth-ranked Tiffani Baublitz by a 4-3 decision.

That was Burgess' lone loss of the day as the senior finished at 3-1 with all three wins by technical superiority. She is now 15-6. Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School) (26-6) and Christina Chavez (Chandler, Ariz./Arizona College Preparatory) (12-7) went 3-0 at 180 lbs. and 207 lbs., respectively. Phillips won twice by technical superiority along with a fall while Chavez had a fall and a win by technical superiority. Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School) (15-5) also was a perfect 3-0 at 138 lbs.

Gannon returns to action on Friday, January 17 hosting Delaware Valley. The match will take place at the Highmark Events Center at 7:00 p.m.
