Women's Wrestling Match Preview: Golden Knights to Wrestle for First Time in 2025 Competing in Ursinus Duals

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's wrestling team returns to the mats for the first time in 2025 competing in the Ursinus Duals on Sunday, January 12. The Golden Knights will wrestle in four duals beginning at 11:00 a.m. They open against Misericordia at that time, and then will follow with matches vs. York (Pa.), East Stroudsburg and Muhlenberg.

Second-year coach Erin Vandiver's squad enjoyed a highly-successful 2024 portion of the season, going 7-0 in duals. The Golden Knights last competed in a dual on December 6, handing Buffalo State a 47-0 defeat. On December 15 Gannon competed in the North Central Open, placing 17th out of 42 teams.

Vandiver can call on no fewer than six wrestlers showing up in the national rankings. Jayden Bazemore (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) is the lone Golden Knight ranked in both the NWCA and The Open Mat rankings. Competing at 124 lbs. Bazemore is ranked seventh by The Open Mat and eighth by the NWCA.

Gannon is ranked 18^th by The Open Mat and 22^nd in the NWCA Top 25. They figure to receive a stern test from East Stroudsburg. The Warriors are 15^th in The Open Mat poll and 17^th according to the NWCA.
