Respecki Records First Career Hat Trick as Gannon Opens PSAC West Action with Win over Edinboro

ERIE, Pa. – Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane) had a hat trick with three goals as Gannon opened the PSAC West campaign with a dominating 5-0 win over Edinboro at McConnell Family Stadium on Wednesday night.

Gannon came in ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 and quickly proved why while playing at home for the first time. Respecki scored her first goal of the match in the seventh minute and the Golden Knights led 4-0 after one half.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-0-0 and are now 1-0-0 in PSAC West action while Edinboro is now 0-1-2 and 0-1-0, respectively. The win came as Gannon continues its dominance against its closest rival. The Golden Knights have now won the last eight meetings, six by shutout, and are 11-0-2 in the last 13 meetings.

After posting a pair of wins on the road at the KU Invitational to open the season, Gannon is in the midst of three straight matches at home. It was also the first of 14 PSAC West matches in the final 15 contests. The Golden Knights host Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m.

How it Happened:
  • Fans who received a free bag of nachos courtesy of Moe's barely had a chance to get comfortable in their seats when Respecki scored her first goal. Her goal at the 6:19 mark, assisted by fellow sophomore standout Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell), came from long distance and beat the Edinboro goalie to the far right side of the net.
  • Respecki made it back-to-back goals, with Emanuel again assisting, came at 21:55. She scored after taking a crossing pass that was misplayed by the goalkeeper and finding the left side of the net.
  • The Golden Knights scored two more goals in the final 11 minutes of the half for a 4-0 advantage after 45 minutes. Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) scored her first goal of the season with freshman Jessie Watkins (Bowie, Md./Bowie) assisting. Fadale headed in a long crossing pass. June Monasterio (Bilbao, Spain/Claret Askartza) added her initial goal of the season off a free kick from Jamie Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum).
  • While Gannon controlled play and both teams substituted liberally, Respecki picked up her hat trick when she took a long pass from Madeline Endler and scored at 64:51.
By the Numbers:
  • Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane) paced the Golden Knights with three goals, the first hat trick of her career. She has already scored five goals this season. The sophomore was named a second team D2CCA All-American and third team United Soccer Coaches All-American after tying for third in NCAA Division II with 16 assists. Respecki tied for fifth nationally with 42 points, the second-highest single-season total in Gannon history. She was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week after scoring two goals in last week's win over Charleston (WV).
  • Gannon held an 18-2 advantage in shots as Edinboro had just one shot on goal. The Golden Knights also had five corner kicks to one for the Fighting Scots.
  • Morgan Sinan (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) was in goal and finished with a save for her second shutout of the season and the eighth of her career.
Next for the Golden Knights:
The Edinboro match was the first of three straight matches at home. The homestand continues on Saturday, September 14 as Pitt-Johnstown visits McConnell Family Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. The Golden Knights have a break before hosting Clarion on September 25.
