Golden Knights Wrap Up Home Schedule with Doubleheader vs. Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon baseball team wrapped up the home portion of its season on Thursday hosting Seton Hill in a doubleheader at McConnell Family Stadium. Gannon dropped bothe ends of the twinbill, 6-0 in the first game and 10-4 in the second.

Gannon and Seton Hill will conclude the regular season on Friday with a doubleheader in Greensburg, Pa. The Golden Knights are currently 10-33 and 6-20 in the PSAC West. The hottest team in the Western Division, Seton Hill improved to 35-12 and 19-7 in league play. The Griffins have now won 13 straight games.

Game 1 – Seton Hill 6, Gannon 0
Seton Hill scored two batters into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Following a walk and stolen base Jack Obendorf's single up the middle made it 1-0. Kevin Schott (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) settled down, inducing a double play followed by a strikeout. The Griffins scored another run in the second to make it 2-0. Gannon threatened for the first time in the fourth inning. With one out Alex Bemis (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) singled down the right field line. Nick Walker (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) followed with a double high off the netting in right field for a double, the freshman's first extra base hit of the season, to put runners on second and third. Brandon Bennett halted the rally with a popout and strikeout. Schott would limit the Griffins to just one hit after the second inning. Seton Hill finally broke through with three runs in the sixth inning to chase Schott. The senior left hander walked the first two batters, bringing in Jaret Boyer (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington). A groundout and two-run double plated three runs for Seton Hill. Seton Hill added an unearned run in the top of the seventh. Seton Hill's Brandon Bergert would limit the Golden Knights to four hits and retired the last 11 batters.

Game 2 – Seton Hill 10, Gannon 4
It was Gannon who jumped out to an early lead in the second game with a pair of runs in the first inning. Reece Colvin (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) walked, Brendan Koroly (Mars, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) was hit by a pitch, and Jared Bielanin (Erie, Pa./McDowell) drove in the game's opening run with a single to left. With two outs Nick Walker (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) dropped a single into center field for a 2-0 lead. The game went back and forth for a time, with Seton Hill scoring a run in the second and two more in the third for a 3-2 lead. Gannon regained the lead with a two-run third inning. Justin Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) drove in Koroly and Bielanin with a single after the two had opened the inning with base hits. Unfortunately Gannon could not hold Seton Hill off the board the rest of the way. The Griffins regained the lead at 5-4 with two runs in the fourth, then added two runs in the fifth and sixth and a run in the seventh. Seton Hill took over advantage of seven walks and three hit batters, along with five Gannon errors in the game. After hitting two balls good in the opener without a hit Bielanin went 2-for-4 in the nightcap. Nick Walker (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) was 2-for-3. Miguel Vega (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) reached on a hit and a walk and stole his 79th career base. The senior holds the record for career stolen bases.
