SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) scored twice and
McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) had a goal and an assist on Wednesday, but Gannon women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 decision to Slippery Rock in a PSAC West matchup at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Slippery Rock improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West.
Gannon slipped to 2-7 and 0-4.
GU stayed close with The Rock while limiting SRU to three first-quarter goals as GU trailed 3-1 going into the second.
By the numbers:
- Slippery Rock took command in the second quarter by outscoring Gannon 8-1 to take an 11-2 halftime lead.
- The Rock kept the pressure on with a 4-1 third period.
- Gannon played SRU to a 3-3 tie in the fourth period.
- Woodworth led off Gannon's scoring with a goal at the 4:09 mark of the first quarter to make it 2-1.
- Schwartz scored in the second period and added a fourth-quarter goal off an assist from Woodworth.
- Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic), Emma-Cait Cogan (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Orange), and Alyssa Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) added goals for the Golden Knights.
- Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) started in goal and made seven saves for GU. Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) made five saves in the second half.
- SRU's Camryn Whipple led all scorers with four goals, while Lauren Searles had a hat trick.
