Gannon women's lacrosse team drops home game against Slippery Rock

McKenna Woodworth scores twice for Golden Knights

ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock women's lacrosse used a five-goal second period to pull away after a close first quarter on Wednesday as The Rock claimed a 15-4 victory over Gannon at McConnell Family Stadium.
 
Gannon moved to 4-11 overall and 2-8 in the PSAC West, while second-place Slippery Rock improved to 11-3 and 7-2.
 
 
By the Numbers:
  • McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) opened the game's scoring with a goal at the 11:38 mark of the first period. She led the Golden Knights with a pair of goals and added an assist.
  • After Slippery Rock took a 2-1 lead, Gannon's Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) tied the score at 2-2 with 4:14 left on the clock. It was her 36th goal of the season. Woodworth assisted on that goal.
  • Slippery Rock scored twice in the final two minutes of the period to take a 4-2 lead into the second period. The Rock then outscored the Golden Knights 5-0 in the second quarter to take a 9-2 halftime lead.
  • Alyssa Lerch's (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) goal early in the third period, off an assist from Stevens, trimmed SRU's advantage to 10-3. Stevens had a goal, two assists, and four draw controls.
  • Woodworth scored Gannon's final goal with 8:41 left in the game.
  • Emma Uhrig (Waterloo, Ontario/Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate) caused five turnovers for Gannon, while Alexandra Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had a team-high four ground balls.
  • Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) made eight saves in reserve role in goal.
  • Lauren Searles and Regan Richeson each had a hat trick to lead Slippery Rock, while Charleigh Rondeau had 10 draw controls. Camryn Whipple had two goals and three assists as she led SRU with five points.
 
What's ahead:
Gannon will host Mercyhurst on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Golden Knights' home finale. The Knights will close the season on May 3 at Edinboro.
