ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon competitive cheer and dance teams move into the spotlight on Saturday as the Golden Knights host their annual Road to Daytona Showcase at the Erie Sports Center.
Coach
Kerri Makay's Gannon team will welcome teams from Edinboro, Penn State Berhend, Point Park, and Ohio State at GU's annual home meet in preparation for the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in April in Daytona Beach, Fla. The meet is being held at Erie Sports Center, 8161 Oliver Rd, Erie,
because Gannon's home facility, the Highmark Events Center, is closed for renovations.
The Road to Daytona Showcase represents more than just a cheer and dance competition, though. It's also Senior Day for eight Golden Knights who will perform in their final home meet.
Stephanie Andres (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area),
McKenna Deible (Knox, Pa./Keystone High School),
Emma Dietrick (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area High),
Hayden Eiss (Corry, Pa./Corry Area High School),
Cassandra Irwin (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek), Alexandra Kreinbucher,
Arianna Negron (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Preparatory School), and
Jaida Wilkerson (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) will be recognized for their contributions to the Gannon program.
Saturday is also the annual Make-A-Wish fundraiser for the Gannon cheer and dance program, which annually ranks among the leaders in GU's fundraising for the organization.
Gannon's Game Day cheer, All-Girl cheer, Team Performance dance, and Hip Hop dance squads will compete Saturday.
Gannon started the 2024 season with consecutive road meets at Penn State Behrend, Elmira, and Alfred. After this weekend, Gannon will face travel to Rochester, N.Y. to compete against the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships are set for April 10-14 at Daytona Beach.
