Huskies Can't Keep Pace with Prosser

Freshman guard scores 23 points in 95-70 win over Bloomsburg

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman guard Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) scored a season-high 23 points as the Gannon men's basketball team ran off its fifth straight win on Friday afternoon. The Golden Knights opened PSAC action with 95-70 win over Bloomsburg to move to 5-2 overall. The Huskies dipped to 1-5.

Ten Golden Knights scored as Gannon grabbed the lead midway through the first half and used several bursts to put away the Huskies. To no one's surprise, turnovers played a major role in the victory as Gannon forced 32 turnovers and held a 41-17 advantage in points off turnovers. The contest featured 35 fouls and 53 turnovers.

Gannon is right back in action on Saturday afternoon facing the preseason favorite in the Eastern Division – East Stroudsburg. The Warriors come in with a 3-1 record. A year ago Gannon upset the Warriors 110-96.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Gannon scored the first five points of the contest but the Huskies eventually grabbed a 9-7 lead. The Golden Knights took the lead for good at 13-12 on a Mason Kemp (Shawnee, Kan./Mill Valley) free throw with 11:30 left in the half and used some strong play from backup guard Mason Bennett (Canton, Ga./Cherokee) to build the lead into double digits.

Bennett had three steals in eight minutes in the first half, while freshman Pace Prosser (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) had four. The Golden Knights forced Bloomsburg into 18 turnovers in the first half and led 40-27 at intermission.

Bloomsburg managed to close the deficit to 50-45 with just under 14 minutes remaining but Gannon answered with a 16-0 run to finally break the contest open. Prosser opened the run with a pair of free throws, and Ernest Shelton (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) followed with a dunk off a Justin DeBuck (Broward County, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter) steal. Prosser added back-to-back 3-pointers before Isiah Warfield (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) scored on a layup following another turnover. Tasman Goodrick (Sydney, Australia/St. Joseph's College) accounted for the last four points on a layup and two free throws as Gannon suddenly led 66-45 with 10:16 left to play.

The lead would grow to as much as 24 points at 71-47 as Gannon put the finishing touches on a 21-2 run. To Bloomsburg's credit, the Huskies battled back to within 14 points at 84-70 with 3:05 to play. The Huskies would not score again, as Gannon ran off the final 11 points, with Prosser and Shelton scoring four apiece.
