Gannon Celebrates Senior Day with 23-4 Win over Edinboro

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a 23-4 win over local rival Edinboro at McConnell Family Stadium. The victory snapped a five-game losing streak as the Golden Knights ended the year at 4-13 and 4-8 in the PSAC West. Edinboro suffered its 14th straight loss to finish at 2-15 and 0-12, respectively.

Gannon recognized seniors Lindsay Ball (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) and Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) in pre-game ceremonies, then went out and opened up a 7-0 lead less than ten minutes into the match. Both Ball and Jacobs played a role in the fast getaway as each scored a goal. The first quarter ended with Gannon holding a 7-1 lead.

The Golden Knights pushed the lead to 11-1 with four goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter. Avrey Kirisits (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) had two goals and an assist in the spree.

Edinboro answered with three goals to close the gap to 11-4 with 6:33 remaining in the half, but that would be the Fighting Scots last hurrah. Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) and Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) kept Edinboro off the scoreboard for the final 36-plus minutes and Gannon would lead 15-4 at the half. Gannon would score the final 12 goals.
Gannon outscored Edinboro 5-0 in the third quarter and 3-0 in the fourth as head coach Jennifer Pawlowski substituted freely and moved many players around.

The 23 goals were a season-high for Gannon as 12 different players found the back of the net. Kirisits led the way with a career-high four goals while adding an assist. Ball came into the game with five career goals and two assists and would add to that total with three goals and two assists while starting at attack. McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) also had three goals and two assists to finish her junior season with 114 career goals.

Jacobs, Gannon's other senior, contributed three goals to conclude her career with 62 goals and seven assists. Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) had two goals and an assist as Stevens and Woodworth ended the year tied for the team lead with 34 goals apiece. Stevens had a team-high 47 points. Angie George (Brecksville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) scored a pair of goals.
A pair of players scored their first goals of the season. Defender Lauren Squires (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) had her fourth career goal while sophomore midfielder Morgan Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette Township) found the back of the net for the first time in her career.

Manning, a sophomore, started in goal and registered two saves while playing the first half. Finnegan played the final 30 minutes and had six saves.

Gannon finished with a 37-14 advantage in shots and had a 21-8 edge in draw controls. Gannon was successful on 9-of-10 clear attempts while Edinboro was 3-for-13. Edinboro committed 17 turnovers and Gannon 14.
