Gannon Drops Pair to No. 22/18 Seton Hill on Saturday

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Gannon's postseason hopes will come down to next week's four-game series against Indiana (Pa.). The Golden Knights were unable to slow down the stream roller that is Seton Hill baseball on Saturday as the Griffins completed a four-game sweep with 10-4 and 8-3 wins over Gannon.

Gannon is now 17-23 overall and 11-13 in the PSAC West. Seton Hill, ranked 22nd by Collegiate Baseball and 18th by the USBWA, extended its winning streak to 14 games while improving to 38-8 overall and 24-0 in PSAC action.

Gannon plays Indiana (Pa.) for four games to conclude the regular season. The Golden Knights travel to Indiana, Pa. for the first two games on Thursday, May 4 before hosting the Crimson Hawks for Senior Day on Friday, May 5.

The top four teams in each division qualify for the PSAC Tournament. Gannon currently sits in fourth place with IUP at 12-12. California (Pa.) is 10-14 and Pitt-Johnstown is 9-15. The Vulcans play Clarion four times to wrap up the regular season. In Gannon's favor is the fact the Golden Knights won three of four vs. Cal earlier this year.

GAME 1 – Seton Hill 10, Gannon 4
The Golden Knights fell victim to a 15-hit attack by the Griffins. Seton Hill scored single runs in the first and second but Gannon claimed a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. The Golden Knights bunched four of their seven hits together in that frame. Miguel Vega's (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) triple to right field scored Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and Chris Mullins (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell), who opened the inning with singles. Ian Hess' (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) single to center drove in Vega but Gannon would leave runners on second and third. Seton Hill tied the game with a run in the third, but Gannon reclaimed the lead at 4-3 with a run in the fifth. With two outs Jared Bielanin (Erie, Pa./McDowell) singled and the junior came around to score on Brandon Wetherholt's (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) double. The lead was short-lived, as Seton Hill scored four times in the fifth and three more times in the sixth. Mullins was the lone Golden Knight with multiple hits, as the freshman catcher was 2-for-2.

GAME 2 – Seton Hill 8, Gannon 3
Gannon was done in by a pair of big innings in the nightcap. The Griffins scored five times in the second and three more times in the fifth. Gannon jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to five straight hits. The Golden Knights were held to three hits the rest of the way. With one out Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), Jared Bielanin (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) loaded the bases with singles. Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) drove in Hess with a single to right field and Ryan Kalbfus' (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) single to left center made it 2-0. Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) followed with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead. Seton Hill took advantage of four hits and a pair of walks to score five times in the third. The Griffins scored three more times in the fifth on three hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. Wetherholt went 3-for-4 for Gannon.
