(4/2/23) … also threw scoreless inning for save vs. D’Youville (4/11/23), and pickled up third save with 1.2 scoreless innings vs. Slippery Rock (4/16/23), striking out four batters … had season-high five strikeouts in 2.2 shutouts innings vs. Indiana (Pa.) AT MERCYHURST: Appeared in nine games for the Lakers while playing from 2019-22 … in 7.1 innings had an 8.59 ERA with seven strikeouts … 2022: Appeared in three games in relief … in two innings registered four strikeouts and allowed no earned runs for a 0.00 ERA … struck out both batters he faced in season debut vs. Alderson Broaddus (3/5/22) … did not appear in any games in 2021 … in 2020 appeared in one game against Fairmont State (3/2/20) tossing one inning and allowing a walk … pitched in five games in 2019, totaling three strikeouts in 4.1 innings while allowing four hits with seven walks.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played football, baseball and basketball at Fort LeBoeuf High School … was a three-year starter in football for head coach Jeff Nichols along with starting four years in baseball and three years in basketball … earned All-Region honors in all three sports and was a captain in all three sports … was the recipient of the Vogt Scholarship.

PERSONAL: Earned his bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst and now working on his Master of Education Degree in Curriculum and Design … son of Janet and David Shields … has one brother, Derrick, who plays baseball at Penn State Behrend … played for the Front Royal Cardinals in the Valley League in 2021.
