ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's lacrosse team will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 29 as they conclude the 2023 campaign. The Golden Knights will host local rival Edinboro in an 11:00 a.m. start. The contest was originally scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with softball playing a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m., but the events have now been flipped.

Gannon will recognize a pair of seniors in pre-game ceremonies – Lindsay Ball (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) and Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) – in addition to honoring four seniors from Edinboro. The Golden Knights will then look to post a season sweep over the Fighting Scots after winning the first meeting at Sox Harrison Stadium on April 1 by a 20-4 score.

Head coach Jennifer Pawlowski's young squad enters with a deceiving five-game losing streak while playing very competitive lacrosse, with three of the losses by a total of six goals. Gannon is 3-13 overall and 3-8 in the PSAC West while Edinboro comes in at 2-14 and 0-11, respectively. The Fighting Scots have lost 13 straight matches since defeating Chowan 13-12 in overtime on March 7.

Eleven different Golden Knights scored goals in the first meeting, with McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) contributing four goals and an assist and Grace Cunningham (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) scoring four times. Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) had three goals and three assists.

Gannon comes off a 12-10 loss to crosstown-rival Mercyhurst on Wednesday. The Golden Knights trailed 10-3 in the third period before running off five straight goals to close to within 10-8 early in the fourth period. Edinboro suffered a 24-3 loss to Slippery rock that same day.

Six Golden Knights have scored 10-or-more goals, with Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) leading the way with 32 goals and 12 assists, the latter figure tied for the team lead, for 44 points. The sophomore attacker was a second team All-PSAC West selection a year ago.

McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) scored three goals against Mercyhurst to boost her season totals to 31 goals and four assists for 35 points. The 2021 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, Woodworth went over 100 career goals earlier in the season.

Avery Kirisits has moved into third place in scoring with eight goals and 12 assists, tying Stevens for the team lead, for 20 points. Jacobs will try to improve on her totals of 16 goals and three assists in her final match as a Golden Knight. Lindsay Ball (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence), Gannon's other senior, has appeared in 10 matches with a goal and an assist.

Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after a career-high 17 saves last week vs. Slippery Rock. The sophomore played the first half against Mercyhurst and played well while facing a barrage of shots. Pawlowski decided to go with Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) in the second half and the freshman allowed just three goals. Manning has a 13.42 GAA with 116 saves while Finnegan has a 14.28 GAA with 36 saves.

Edinboro has scored just 81 goals this season but freshman Rylee Jones has accounted for almost half of those. Jones has 37 goals and 14 assists for 51 points.
