Stevens Accounts for Four Goals in Loss at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) accounted for four goals but it was not enough to prevent a 14-7 loss at Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Golden Knights to 3-11 and 3-6 in the PSAC West with three games remaining. Lock Haven improved to 5-9 and is also 3-6 in conference play.

The Golden Knights staged a strong comeback against the Bald Eagles in the first meeting in mid-March, prevailing 14-13. Saturday's contest was delayed due to rain and lightning, and it was a tight match until early in the third period.

Gannon held a 2-1 lead after one period thanks to a pair of Stevens goals and trailed by just 6-4 at the half. Stevens scored her fourth goal of the day just over two minutes into the third period, but Lock Haven scored six of the next seven goals and led 12-7 at the end of the third period.

A low-scoring fourth period saw the Bald Eagles score the only two goals of the final 15 minutes, with neither team scoring for the first nine minutes.

Lock Haven held a 31-20 advantage in shots and was successful on 17-of-22 clears while Gannon finished at 14-of-23. The Golden Knights were guilty of 25 turnovers while Lock Haven committed 20.

Stevens now has 29 goals on the season. Mckenna Woodworth boosted her total to 27 and was credited with an assist. Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) accounted for Gannon's other goals. Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) was in goal for the first three periods and made eight saves, while Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) played the last 15 minutes and had two saves.

Gannon returns to action on Wednesday, April 19 playing at Slippery Rock. The contest gets underway at 4:00 p.m. will be the final road game of the season.
