Four Score Goals as Golden Knights Play at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Gannon women's lacrosse team debuted in the north for the first time in 2023 in conditions distinctly different than its first two matches. Both were played in Florida, unlike Wednesday's match in a much chillier Rochester, N.Y. The Golden Knights came up on the short end of an 18-4 decision to go to 0-3 on the season. The Redhawks improved to 4-3. The contest was originally scheduled for Februray 24 but Roberts Wesleyan's field was unplayable at that time.

Roberts Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one period. They opened the scoring just over a minute into the match on a goal by Emma Blumenstock. The Redhawks accounted for the first five goals before Skylar Parsons scored with 1:01 remaining in the quarter for her first goal of the season.

Neither team scored for the first eight minutes of the second quarter before Blumenstock scored again to give Roberts Wesleyan a 6-1 advantage. Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) made it 6-2 at the 4:31 mark on a free position goal for her third score of the young season, but the Redhawks found the back of the net twice in the last 40 seconds.

Gannon was unable to gets its attack going in the third quarter as the Redhawks scored six times for a 14-2 lead. Gannon would score twice in the fourth quarter on goals by Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Angie George (Brecksville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban).

Roberts Wesleyan held a 28-9 edge in shots, including 22-6 in shots on goal. Gannon committed 25 turnovers compared to 15 for the Redhawks.
Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) and Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) split time in goal, with Finnegan recording one save and Manning three.

Gannon will return to the Empire State for its next game, playing at Daemen on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m. The Golden Knights will finally debut at home on Wednesday, March 15 hosting Indiana (Pa.) at 4:00 p.m. The match will mark the beginning of PSAC action.
