Weary Golden Knights Get Much-Needed Day Off after Dropping Pair of Games on Tuesday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Gannon softball team will get a much-needed day off from The Spring Games on Wednesday after dropping a pair of contests on Tuesday. The Golden Knights fell to 1-6 as they lost the first game to Bridgeport, 10-8, before falling 13-5 to Findlay in five innings in the nightcap.

The good news for head coach Michelle Wiley was the bats came alive, with Gannon pounding out xx hits in the two games. But after some strong pitching the last few days the Golden Knights struggled in the circle.

After taking Wednesday off Gannon returns to action on Thursday, March 2. They place twice, meeting Assumption and then Dominican (NY).

Game 1 – Bridgeport 10, Gannon 8
The Golden Knights saw Bridgeport score seven runs in the second inning to go up 7-1. They would battle back to grab an 8-7 lead thanks to four runs in the top of the fourth and three more in the fifth. Andrea Watson (Venus, Pa./Cranberry Area) had an RBI pinch hit single in the fourth, driving in Abbey Girman (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) after a triple. Freshman Ashley Fox (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City) added an RBI single, as did Olivia Evans (Horseheads, New York/Horseheads Senior High), and Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) wrapped up the scoring with an RBI triple. Gannon forged ahead 8-7 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Zoe Monica drove in the go-ahead run with a single. Bridgeport reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth as the Panthers had three hits and took advantage of two Gannon errors for a 10-8 lead. Gannon outhit Bridgeport 15-13, with Fox going 4-for-5. Evans, Ryan, Girman, and Natalie Mallozzi had two hits apiece.

Game 2 – Findlay 13, Gannon 5
Findlay pushed across three runs in the first and second, a pair in the third, and then scored five runs in the fourth top jump ahead 13-2. Gannon scored three times in the bottom of the fourth but was unable to avoid the eight-run rule. The Oilers pounded out 17 hits while Gannon had five. Olivia Evans (Horseheads, New York/Horseheads Senior High) drove in a pair of runs and had a double, while Ashley Fox (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City), Lauren Rougeux, Abbey Girman (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Natalie Mallozzi had a hit each.
