Gannon's Nick Young wins PSAC West Wrestling Athlete of Week award for 2nd time

Graduate student builds big lead in 149-pound match, then gets a pin vs. Seton Hill

Gannon University standout Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) has been selected as the PSAC Wrestling Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after a dominant performance in the Golden Knights' PSAC dual-meet finale.

Young, ranked No. 2 nationally at 149 pounds, was impressive in his only action of the week on Saturday, Feb. 11, in Gannon's 41-3 victory over Seton Hill. He helped Gannon improve to 9-5 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC, good for a second-place finish in the conference.

The graduate student dominated in the top position against his opponent as he built a 15-2 lead with a series of near falls. Young then closed out the match by recording a pin at the 4:50 mark of the match for his ninth fall of the season.

He improved his season record to 23-4 with his 76th career victory.

He is a two-time National Qualifier and was an All-American at 157 pounds in 2020-21 with a sixth-place finish in the NCAA Division II Championships.

He also claimed the PSAC Wrestling Athlete of the Week award on Jan. 31. It was the third time in his career he has claimed the award.
