Ujfalvi, Boyle named Gannon Chick-fil-A Student-Athletes of the Week

Wrestler Lili Ujfalvi and swimmer Malachi Boyle turned in outstanding performances over the weekend

ERIE, Pa. – Wrestler Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School) and swimmer Malachi Boyle (Knoxville, Tenn./Home Life Academy) have been named the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 7. The Gannon Student-Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Chick-fil-A of Erie.

Ujfalvi won the 143-pound title at the East Stroudsburg Open to lead the Gannon women's wrestling team in the opening event of the season on Sunday. The Hungary native went 4-0 with three technical falls.

The sophomore opened the tournament with consecutive 10-0 victories over Elmira's Tess Clabaugh and Sacred Heart's Jullia Mullane. Ujfalvi then turned in an 11-0 win over unattached wrestler Katie Brensinger.

That set the stage for a finals matchup against Sacred Heart's Khadijah Sanusi. Ujfalvi took a 4-0 lead in the second period and held on for a 4-2 win to take the title.

Boyle excelled on Saturday in Gannon's dual with Rochester Institute of Technology while setting a couple of pool records.

The sophomore  finished the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:50.92, beating the previous record by almost 8 seconds. Gannon took the top two spots in the event as Ryan Barclay (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) touched in a season-best 9:59.68, just a second off the previous record.

Boyle also set a pool record in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 4:40.31. That topped the previous record by about one second. Teammate Ben Williams (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay) placed second with a season-best 4:50.55.
