SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) contributed two goals and two assists as Gannon scored a season-high seven goals in a 7-1 win at Slippery Rock on Wednesday afternoon. The tenth-ranked Golden Knights have now won five straight games and improved to 11-0-1 and 4-0-0 in the PSAC West. They are off to their best start since the 1993 team opened the season with 14 straight victories. SRU fell to 2-5-4 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play.

In addition to Orten, who now has three goals and seven assists, Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) and Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) each contributed a goal and an assist. Katsande entered the match ranked among the national leaders in goals and assists and boosted his totals to 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points. Ferrer, meanwhile, has 11 assists to go with his three goals. The redshirt sophomore was leading the PSAC in assists entering the match.

Gannon would jump out to a 3-0 lead late in the first half before Slippery Rock scored in the 43rd minute to cut the lead to 3-1 at the half. The first two goals came in lightning fashion just 23 seconds apart. Petter Dyrkorn (Sandvika, Norway/Doenski Videregaaende Skole) crossing pass was headed by Orten to Ferrer in front of the net. Ferrer's header beat SRU goalkeeper Adam Davies for his third goal of the season at 26:12.

It was 2-0 after Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000) stole the ball deep in the SRU end. His long cross from the left wing found Katsande, who headed the ball into the back of the net at 26:35. It was the graduate student's tenth goal of the season. He entered the match tied for the PSAC lead in goals and tied for seventh in Division II.
Orten made it 3-0 when his shot from ten yards out went into the far right corner of the goal at 41:51. Ferrer set up the second goal of the season for Orten with a beautiful header from the right side.

This time it was Slippery Rock who followed up the goal with another quick one. The Rock got on the board 27 seconds later at 42:18 on a goal by Arturo Pia Hernandis.

Gannon's lead grew to 4-1 less than five minutes into the second half courtesy of freshman Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil). The unassisted goal came at 49:38 as Hyde fired a left-footed shot from the left wing into the goal. He has now scored five goals.

Neither team would score for almost 17 minutes, but then Gannon scored three times in a five-minute span. The first was the third of the season by Herman Aanberg (Hamar, Norway/Wang Toppidrett Oslo), with Katsande assisting at 66:22. Orten's unassisted goal into the high left corner of the net made it 6-1 at 68:08, and freshman Samuel Burton (Vantaa, Finland/Makelanrinteen Lukio) capped the three-goal surge with his third goal of the season at 71:38.
