Tinashe Katsande scores twice, Sverre Orten adds 3 assists as Golden Knights down Mountain Cats

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – For the fourth time this season, the Gannon men's soccer team recorded a shutout en route to a 4-0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon.

Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) scored twice, while James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) and Benjamin Querling (Zuelpich, Germany/Emil-Fischer Gymnasium) added a goal to help the No. 10-ranked Gannon Knights improve to 12-0-1 on the year, with a 5-0 slate in the PSAC West.

How it happened 
  • After a scoreless first half, Pool found the back of the net off a cross from Katsande to take a 1-0 lead with 30:44 left in the contest. 
  • The Golden Knights struck again, this time off a header from Katsande with an assist from Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) to take a 2-0 lead with 24:57 left in the match. 
  • Gannon's third goal came when Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) crossed a pass into the box for Benjamin Querling (Zuelpich, Germany/Emil-Fischer Gymnasium), who found the bottom left corner of the net. 
  • An Orten pass into the middle of the box found Katsande to add the final goal of the contest and guide the Golden Knights to a 4-0 road victory.  

Inside the numbers 
  • The Golden Knights outshot the Mountain Cats 25 (12 on goal) to 10 (one on goal) 
  • Gannon ended the contest with an 18-3 advantage in corner kicks. 
  • Katsande led the Knights' scoring surge with two goals and an assist. Katsande leads the team and PSAC with 12 goals and 32 points.  
  • Pool and Querling each added a goal to help guide the offensive charge. 
  • Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) dished out a team-high three assists, while Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) had two, and Katsande added one. Ferrer currently sits atop of the PSAC West in assists with 13 on the year.  
  • Mateo Lite (Huesca, Spain/IES Luis Bunuel) earned the clean sheet and recorded one save in 90 minutes of play between the pipes for the Golden Knights.  

Up next 

Gannon is back in action on Wednesday, October 18, when they travel to take on crosstown rival Mercyhurst. The two squads met earlier this year with the Golden Knights getting a 5-1 win at McConnell Family Stadium. The match also features a #1 and #2 showdown in the PSAC West.
