ERIE, Pa.
– The Gannon women's wrestling team takes to the mat for the first time in the New Year on Friday, January 6 competing in the NWCA Women's Multi-Division National Duals. The two-day event takes place at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Ky. and will feature some of the top teams and wrestlers in the country.

Head coach Breonnah Neal's team last competed in the Northeast Duals on December 4, going 3-1 on the day. The Golden Knights defeated Ursinus (37-6), New Jersey City (35-13), and East Stroudsburg (34-14) to reach the championship bout. They would come up just short against Sacred Heart, losing 25-20.

Gannon comes in ranked ninth in the latest NWCA Women's Team Dual Meet Rankings and are eighth in the overall coaches rankings. Four Golden Knights show up in the latest individual poll.

Seven of the ten teams in the NWCA Team Dual Rankings are competing in the 16-team NWCA Multi-Division National Duals. That includes the top five teams in the poll. Gannon will open up action at 10:00 a.m. on Friday against Wisconsin-Stevens Point. If they get by the Pointers they face a potential meeting against top-ranked King at 12 noon. King opens up against Schreiner. Second-ranked North Central, No. 3 Colorado-Mesa, fourth-ranked McKendree and No. 5 Augsburg are also in the field. McKendree and Augsburg are also in Gannon's side of the bracket.

Julianne Mocchia paces Gannon's ranked wrestlers. The sophomore is ranked fourth at 109 lbs. and comes in with a 10-5 record. A year ago she earned All-American honors after placing seventh at 109 lbs. at the National Championships and ending the year with a 23-8 record. Mocchia placed third at the ESU Open and sixth at the Missouri Valley Open earlier this year.

Jewel Gonzalez (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) is next, ranked sixth at 170 lbs. The junior has enjoyed a solid return to the mat after not wrestling since the 2020-21 season. She owns an 8-4 record and has a second-place finish to her credit at the ESU Open.

Gonzalez is one of two Golden Knights ranked at 170 lbs., with Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) a spot behind her in seventh place. Helm has a 10-3 record and came in third at the ESU Open. While ranked at 170 lbs. the junior is listed at 155 lbs. for the NWCA National Duals.

Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) has been in and out of the NWCA rankings this year, and the junior is currently ranked eighth at 136 lbs. with a 7-4 record. She earned a fourth-place finish at the Adrian Open.

Neal's lineup receives a boost with a pair of additions. Amara Devericks (San Clemente, Calif./Corona), is expected to make her season debut at 191 lbs. after finishing with an 18-7 ledger a year ago. In addition, transfer Samantha Brielle Larsen will slot in at 116 lbs. The junior previously wrestled at King University and finished third at the NCWW Regional Championships as a freshman.
