INDIANA, PA -- The first 60 minutes of the Gannon women's soccer team's matchup with Indiana, Pa. on Saturday afternoon went as planned for the Golden Knights.
However, a 10-minute Gannon defensive letdown midway through the second half allowed IUP to escape with a 2-2 tie in a PSAC West matchup at IUP's South Campus Field.
Gannon's record moved to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the PSAC West as it extended its streak without a loss to three games. IUP moved to 0-0-2 and 0-0-1 after its second consecutive tie.
Coach
Colin Petersen's team grabbed an early lead when
Logan Nicklas (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) scored her second goal of the season off an assist from
Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y.) at the 6:28 mark. The Knights took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
About 15 minutes into the second half,
Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria) scored her team-leading third goal of the season to give Gannon a 2-0 lead.
Holly Gray (Gold Coast, Australia) registered an assist on the goal.
However, IUP did not give up. The Crimson Hawks struck on Nicole Clydesdale's goal off an assist from Sami Nemeth at the 67:37 mark. The Hawks then tied the score Aislinn Meaney's unassisted goal at 76:11.Â
The rest of the game went without a score as the teams settled for the tie. The NCAA mandated before the season that no overtimes would be played during regular-season games.
Gannon will return to action Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it will visit Edinboro for a PSAC West game.
