EDINBORO, PA – The Gannon University women's volleyball team improved to 4-0 in the PSAC West with a four-set road win over rival Edinboro on Saturday afternoon.
Junior outside hitter
Madde Blake (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) had career highs of 19 kills, 20 digs, and 20 points to lead Gannon, and she put away the final two kills to secure a 25-22, 25-13, 25-27, 25-20 victory at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse.
Coach
Matt Darling's Gannon team moved to 10-4 overall and is tied with Clarion atop the PSAC West standings.
Edinboro dropped to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
"Today's match was a great battle, and we're happy to come out on top," Darling said. "Edinboro played well, and it took a full team effort to win."
Senior middle blocker
Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute) collected 16 kills, sophomore outside hitter
Sam Deinek (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East) had 14 kills, and
Sophia Glabus (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Hailey Koch (Littleton, Col./Dakota Ridge) added nine and eight kills, respectively.
Freshman setter
Bengisu Arslan (Ankara, Turkey) also had a big day with a career-high 56 assists to go with 15 digs. Sophomore libero
Emma Hall (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) led Gannon with 25 digs.
After Gannon pulled out a tough first set, the Golden Knights dominated the second, only to see Edinboro come back to win a back-and-forth third set.
The fourth set was tied 16-16 before Gannon went on a 7-1 run to take a 23-17 lead. Gannon called a timeout after Edinboro trimmed the lead to 23-20. Blake then put away back-to-back kills from the left side to complete the victory.
Blake finished with 44 total attacks and did not have a single attack error.
"Everyone made big contributions today, but
Madde Blake's (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) performance was sublime," Darling said.
The win was the second of four consecutive road matches for the Golden Knights. They will travel to Slippery Rock on Tuesday evening for another PSAC West matchup.
