Mandel, Personius in Top 20 as Gannon Places Sixth at Harry F. Anderson Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Caleb Mandel (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek) and Ely Personius (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) placed in the top 20 to lead the Gannon men's cross country team to a sixth-place showing in the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday morning. A total of 15 teams and 174 runners took part in the 8K race hosted by Roberts Wesleyan at the Matt St. James Cross Country Trails.

Geneseo took home first place with a dominant showing as seven of the first ten runners crossing the finish line were from Geneseo. Cortland was a distant second with 97 points. Roberts Wesleyan and St. Bonaventure third for third with 110 points. Fredonia State rounded out the top five with 125 points. Gannon totaled 148 points.

Mandel, Personius and Luke Malena (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) have now placed one-two-three for Gannon in each of the team's first three races. Mandel, a junior, crossed the finish line in 12th place with a time of 25:32.2. Personius, a sophomore, was next with a time of 26:02.6, good for 16th place.

Freshman Luke Malena (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) came in 36th with a time of 26:50.7. He was followed by junior Alex Chelton (Oil City, Pa./Cathedral Prep), who was 60th at 27:38.0, and Gavyn Hansotte (New Castle, Pa./New Castle), who was 65th at 27:54.3. A total of nine Golden Knights competed in the race.

Gannon returns to action on Saturday, October 8 at the Ed Winrow Invitational at Mansfield.
