Macy Hepditch Scores Three Times in Loss at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) continued her hot scoring with three goals, but the Gannon women's lacrosse team lost its third straight match by a 14-8 margin at Lock Haven. Gannon is now 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC West after losing to the Bald Eagles for the second time this season. Lock Haven is now 7-4 and 4-3, respectively.

After back-to-back one-goal losses, the Golden Knights lost by a wider margin on Saturday, but the score was hardly indicative of how close the match was. Gannon led 2-1 after one period on free position goals by Hepditch and Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and held a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter after Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) scored her 14th goal of the season at the 12:18 mark.

Unfortunately, the Bald Eagles scored the final four goals of the second period to take a 6-4 lead at intermission, then opened the third quarter with a goal for a 7-4 advantage. Hepditch scored her 26th goal of the season to snap that run, and when sophomore Jackie Sandquist (Humble, Texas/Kingwood Park) found the back of the net for her first career goal, Gannon had pulled to within 7-6.

The two teams exchanged goals, with McKenna Woodworth's (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) goal, assisted by Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell), again pulled the Golden Knights to within a goal at 8-7.

Lock Haven clamped down on the Gannon attack after that, as the Bald Eagles closed the third quarter with a 10-7 lead, then outscored Gannon 4-1 in the final period.
In addition to Hepditch's three goals, Jacobs scored twice, while Tufts had a goal and an assist and Woodworth and Sandquist had one goal apiece. Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) and Christina Zeher (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) were credited with assists. Cheyenne Jess (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) started in goal and totaled 13 saves. Lock Haven held a 40-25 edge in shots.

Gannon returns to action on Wednesday, April 13 hosting Edinboro. The contest gets underway at McConnell Family Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
