– The Gannon women's lacrosse team begins the final stretch of the 2022 campaign as it wraps up the season with straight road contests. The first is set for Tuesday, April 19 at Slippery Rock. The contest gets underway at 4:00 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Golden Knights played their final home game on Saturday night, dropping a 20-13 decision to Indiana(Pa.) as seven seniors were recognized on Senior Day. The loss left Gannon with a 5-9 overall record and 3-6 in the PSAC West. However, the record is not indicative of the improvement shown during the course of the season by a young squad.

That improvement includes a stunning 16-15 win over Slippery Rock on March 30 at McConnell Family Stadium. The Golden Knights rallied from a 14-7 deficit midway through the third quarter, holding The Rock to just one goal over the final 21 minutes. Scoring seven consecutive goals at one point, Gannon knotted the game at 14-14, only to see SRU regain the lead with 6:30 remaining. Gannon tied the score on a McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) goal with 4:07 left. Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) then capped the comeback with the winning goal with 12 seconds remaining, part of a seven-goal, one-assist effort for the sophomore.

Third-year head coach Jennifer Pawlowski has molded a young team into a dangerous unit that features several dependable scorers. Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) has taken over the team lead in points with 43 on 29 goals and a team-high 14 assists. She has scored 19 goals in the last five contests.

Woodworth, the 2021 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, is tied for the team lead in goals with 33 goals, adding nine assists for 42 points. She earned second team All-PSAC West honors a year ago after leading Gannon in goals (40), assists (60), and points (46). She ranked sixth in the PSAC in goals.

Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool), a freshman, is tied for the team lead in goals with 33, adding four assists for 37 points. Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) adds 21 goals and three assists for 24 points. She led the PSAC in goals in 2020 with 22 and points with 27. Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) scored a team-high four goals on Saturday vs. IUP and now has contributed 20 goals and an assist.

Cheyenne Jess (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) has taken over as the starter in goal, with starts in the last five games. The senior has 82 saves and a 13.07 GAA in 564 minutes. Jess played the final 37 minutes for Gannon in goal in the first meeting with SRU, recording 10 saves to earn the victory. She allowed just six goals, including only two in the second half.  Kendra Delissio (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) has also seen considerable action in goal, playing 283 minutes with 46 saves and a 9.98 GAA.

Slippery Rock comes off a 25-1 win over Edinboro on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak. SRU features one of the top scoring threats in the PSAC in Emily Benham, who has 41 goals and 29 assists for 70 points. She ranks fourth in the PSAC in points per game.
