Zeroski Strokes Career-High Four Hits in Loss at Ashland

ASHLAND, OhioTrey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) enjoyed a career-best day at the plate as Gannon dropped a 12-5 decision in a nine inning non-conference game at Ashland on Tuesday afternoon. Zeroski was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Gannon is now 16-10 while Ashland improved to 19-10. Gannon won an earlier meeting with the Eagles in Florida 6-4.

Zeroski's day got started with a bunt single in the second inning. He added an infield single to second base to drive in a run in the third inning, then singled to center field in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, the redshirt junior shortstop led off the frame with a double to left center. He raised his average over 40 points to .247 with the four hits.

The two teams combined for 26 hits, with Ashland accumulating 17 and Gannon nine. In addition, the game featured seven errors, four by Ashland.
Gannon opened the scoring in the top of the first with a run as Miguel Vega (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a single to center by Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). The Golden Knights boosted their lead to 3-0 as Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) drove in a run with the bases loaded with a fielder's choice, and another run scored on a throwing error. They would leave the bases loaded.

Ashland would tie the score with three runs in the bottom of the third on four hits. Gannon regained the lead with a run in the top of the third, with Zeroski's infield single driving in Luke Callahan (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon), who was hit by a pitch. The Eagles went ahead 5-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Gannon tied it at 5-5 with a run in the sixth. Zeroski singled and stole a base, and after an error, Cameron Vozel (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) drove in Zeroski with an RBI single to left.

The Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, then opened it up with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Hess, who was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week and NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Vega reached base three times as he was hit by a pitch twice and walked, adding two stolen bases.

Matthew Graeber (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan) went the first four innings for Gannon, with Jared Boyer throwing the next two and picking up the loss. Carson Whiteman (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) and Joseph Reitebach (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) each threw an inning.

Gannon returns to action with a pair of PSAC West doubleheaders later in the week. The Golden Knights play at Clarion for two on Friday, April 15 then host the Golden Eagles on Saturday, April 16.
