ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Gannon University Competitive Cheer and Dance teams excelled at the 2022 Upstate Collegiate Competition, collecting four first-place trophies to continue its successful run during its spring break road trip.

The All-Girl roster earned first place over Mount Saint Mary College and Alfred University thanks to high scores in stunt difficulty, pyramid difficulty, jump technique and standing tumbling technique.Â

The Hip-Hop dance roster earned its first-place finish over second-place Elmira College thanks to high scores of 9.2 in performance impression, 9.3 in uniformity, and 9.5 in staging.
Both the Co-ed and Team Performance teams were uncontested in those categories, but both performed at a high level. The Co-ed team scored 9.5/10 for choreography and 9.5/10 for overall effect along with high scores in stunt difficulty, running tumbling difficulty, standing tumbling technique and perfect scores of 5/5 for both jump difficulty and jump technique.

The Gannon Team Performance earned high scores performance impression, uniformity, quality of movement and choreography.

Kerri Makay is excited about how the team can build on the success from a great day of competition.

"These teams are setting themselves up for what I confidently feel is their most successful year yet," said Makay. "We are coming home with an impressive four total first place trophies, and I couldn't be prouder about the performances these teams had today. We will spend this week preparing for our next competition. The teams are in such a great place and we are ready to keep this forward momentum."

The next test is just six days away, as the teams head to Keuka College on Saturday, March 12 for the Keuka Cheer Classic.
