ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University women's wrestling team will compete in the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5. First-year head coach Breonnah Neal will take along eight wrestlers who qualified for the National Championships at the NCWWC Northeast Regional on February 20. Adrian College is hosting the Nationals at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
 
Wrestling will get underway at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with championship and consolation rounds. The day will wrap up with the championship semifinal and consolation quarterfinals. Wrestling begins on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with the consolation semifinals and placement rounds. The championship round will occur at 2:00 p.m.
 
Gannon finished third at the recent Northeast Regional, with Tiffin first and Adrian second. The Golden Knights had eight wrestlers qualify for Nationals with top five finishes in their respective weight classes. Freshman Julianne Moccia (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) brought home the championship at 109 lbs., winning all three of her matches with first period falls. She makes her first trip to Nationals with a 20-6 record and is ranked seventh.
 
Four Gannon grapplers finished second. Kat Pendregrass and Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) were runners-up at 101 and 136 lbs., respectively. Both look to repeat as All-Americans. Perez placed sixth a year ago while competing at 130 lbs. The sophomore owns an 18-8 record. Pendergrass also changed weight classes this year, dropping down to 101 lbs. after finishing eighth at 109 lbs. while competing at Ferrum in 2020-21. The sophomore has a 16-5 record and is ranked eighth.
 
Nikoly Dos Santos (Matthews, N.C./Providence) and Anya Knappenberger (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) also finished second at the regional. Dos Santos qualified for Nationals for the second straight year at 116 lbs. The junior had seen limited action prior to the regional and is now 5-2. Knappenberger, a freshman, leads the team in wins with a 26-6 record. She makes her first trip to Nationals ranked seventh at 130 lbs.
 
Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) is now a four-time national qualifier after qualifying last year at 143 lbs. and in 2019, and the year before at 136 lbs. The senior placed fourth at 143 lbs. at the regional and comes in with a 19-10 record.  
 
Mikayla Dockweiler (Corpus Christi, Texas/Richard King) will make her second appearance at Nationals after previously qualifying in 2019 while competing at 130 lbs. She will compete at 136 lbs. this year after placing fifth at the regional. The senior owns an 8-8 record.
 
Ekta Arora (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) wraps up Gannon's contingent of qualifiers after finishing fourth at 101 lbs. The freshman comes in with a 4-9 record.
 
A year ago Gannon placed tenth out of 22 teams at the NCWWC National Championships, with three wrestlers earning All-American honors. A total of seven Golden Knights competed. In addition to Perez finishing sixth, Amara Devericks (San Clemente, Calif./Corona) was seventh at 191 lbs. and Caleann Blarr was eighth at 123 lbs. Neither was able to compete at the Northeast Regional two weeks ago. The year before Gannon had two All-Americans.

No. 8 Kat Pendergrass (South Hill, Va./South Granville(NC)) (16-5, So.) – ranked eighth, she makes her second trip to the National Championships after earning All-American honors while competing a year ago at Ferrum. Finished eighth while competing at 109 lbs. Comes in with a 16-5 record with ten falls and three technical falls. She reached the finals with a fall before losing by fall to top-ranked Olivia Shore of Tiffin. She placed in three tournaments. Finished first at the Albion Invitational, along with third at the ESU invitational and Bearcat Open.

Receives a bye in the first round before facing Bye, then Kelly Enriquez of Wisc.-Stephens Point in the next round.
 
Ekta Arora (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) (4-9, Fr.) – makes her first appearance at Nationals thanks to a fourth place showing at the Eastern Regional.  Has a 4-9 record and placed eighth at the Adrian Open.

Receives a bye in the first round, then meets seventh-ranked Brooke Thurber of Wisc.-Stephens Point in the second round.

No. 7 Julianne Moccia (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) (20-6, Fr.) – won the Northeast Regional in dominating fashion, winning all three bouts by first period falls. Improved to 20-6 with 12 falls and four technical falls and has climbed to seventh in the latest national rankings. Prior to the regional came off a first place showing at the Bearcat Open after finishing fifth at the Grand View Open. Defeated then sixth-ranked Natalie Reyna of McKendree by fall at 1:38 in the finals of the Bearcat Open. Has run off eight straight wins, with six of those victories by fall. Placed in five tournaments in all, adding a third place showing at the ESU Invitational and fourth at the Adrian Open.

Nikoly Dos Santos (Matthews, N.C./Providence) (5-2, Jr.) – makes her second trip to Nationals after also qualifying at 116 lbs. a year ago with a third place showing at regionals. This year she earned her trip after finishing second. Reached the finals with a second period fall before losing to Angela LoRusso of Adrian in the finals. Missed almost a full two months, returning to compete in the Dragon Duals and winning three of four bouts. Comes in with a 5-2 record with 2 falls and a technical fall.

No. 7 Anya Knappenberger (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) (26-6, Fr.) – has moved up to seventh in the latest rankings at 130 lbs. after placing second at the Northeast Regional. Has a 26-6 record, leading the team in wins, with nine falls and seven technical falls. Defeated then fifth-ranked Naomi Henry of New Jersey City in the semifinals before dropping an 8-4 decision to Tiffin's Solana Mottola in the finals. Mottola is now ranked sixth. At one point had an eight-match winning streak. Has placed in five tournaments, with first place showings at the Albion Invitational and Adrian Open, along with a second place at the ESU Invitational and a third at the Grand View Open.

Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) (18-8, So.) – returning All-American who finished second at 136 lbs. at this year's regional after winning the regional title in 2021 at 130 lbs. Went on to finish sixth at Nationals to earn All-American honors. Came into the Northeast Regional ranked eighth and won by fall and technical fall to reach the finals. In the finals, she lost to Zoe Nowicki of Adrian, who was ranked number one at the time and is currently second. Has an 18-8 record with nine falls and seven technical falls. Earned a first place finish at the Albion Invitational, along with a second place at the Adrian Open and third at the Grand View Open.

Mikayla Dockweiler (Corpus Christi, Texas/Richard King) (8-8, Sr.) – battled her way through an injury to place fifth at 136 lbs. at the Northeast Regional and earn her second trip to Nationals. Earned the last spot in the weight class with a 6-0 win over Adrian's Shawna Oesterling. Previously qualified for Nationals in 2019 while competing at 130 lbs. Comes in with an 8-8 record with three falls and three technical falls.

Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) (19-10, Sr.) – a four-time national qualifier after finishing fourth at 143 lbs. at the regional. Previously qualified for Nationals at 143 lbs. in 2021 and 2019, and in 2020 at 136 lbs. Comes in with an 18-10 record with eight falls and six technical falls. Earned four places, finishing first at the Albion Invitational, second at the Adrian Open, and fourth at the ESU Invitational. Last five wins have come via bonus points.
