Jacobs Scores Career-High Four Goals in Loss at IUP

INDIANA, Pa. – On Saturday the Gannon women's lacrosse team burned Edinboro for 23 goals. On Tuesday Indiana(Pa.) was able to slow down the Golden Knights while pulling away for a 17-6 win at George P. Miller Stadium.

The Golden Knights are now 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC West. IUP won its third straight game to improve to 5-2 and is now 3-0 in league play.

While ten different Crimson Hawks scored goals, Gannon was limited to three goal-scorers. Junior Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) led the Golden Knights with a career-high four goals, with Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) and Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) accounting for the other Gannon goals. IUP held McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), one of the leading scorers in the PSAC, to just three shots and an assist.

After battling without a goal for five minutes, Gannon finally opened the scoring as Stevens took a pass from Woodworth and scored at the 9:55 mark. IUP ran off the next three goals, the last with just over a minute remaining in the period, for a 3-1 lead after one quarter.

Gannon closed the gap to 3-2, opening the second quarter with a Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) goal at 11:45. The Crimson Hawks responded with three straight goals to build the lead back to 6-2. Jacobs scored her first goal of the match at the 5:28 mark to pull Gannon to within 6-3. IUP would tack on a goal just over a minute later as the half ended at 7-3.

The Crimson Hawks scored the first three goals of the third quarter as Gannon's deficit grew to 10-3. Jacobs would score twice in a two-minute period late in the third quarter to cut the lead to 10-5. An IUP goal with 36 seconds left in the period gave IUP an 11-5 lead after three quarters.

Unfortunately, that goal started a run of seven goals in a row as IUP pulled out to a 17-5 advantage. Jacobs was able to stop the run with her fourth goal with 1:25 left to play.

IUP held a 40-22 advantage in shots, most of that coming in the second half after the two teams took 16 shots apiece in the first half. Gannon had 16 turnovers compared to seven for the Crimson Hawks. Both teams were very efficient on clears, with Gannon showing a 12-for-14 chart and IUP 11 of 12.

Kendra Delissio (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) started in goal and registered 10 saves in just over 40 minutes, Cheyenne Jess (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) played the rest of the way and recorded four saves.

Gannon returns to action on Sunday, March 27 hosting Seton Hill. That contest gets underway at 1 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.
