MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Gannon Competitive Cheer and Dance team turned in two first-place finishes at CANAM Grand Nationals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Friday evening at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The Knights took first place in the hip hop dance competition and Co-ed competition on Friday evening, while also taking second place in the All-Girl competitive cheer competition, foaling by just 0.1 points to the first-place finishers, Lander University.
"It was a great weekend for the program and as a coaching staff, we are so proud of the showings by our athletes in each competition at CANAM," said head coach
Kerri Makay. "However, we are ready to return home and get back to work. We have improvements to make, and I think our team is more motivated and passionate than ever before to finish the season strong.
"Daytona is coming up quick, and we are going to make the most of these last 20 days to get where we need to be," Makay added.
In the hip-hop dance competition, Gannon took first place over East Carolina and Keiser to win the dance championship. In Co-ed, Gannon also took first place, outperforming Limestone and Winona State for the championship crown. In All-Girl, Lander and Gannon took the top two spots, followed by Appalachian State and Keiser.
Gannon also competed uncontested in the team cheer performance during CANAM Grand Nationals.
The Knights will now return to Erie for their only home performance of the season at the Road to Daytona Showcase next Saturday (March 26) at the Highmark Events Center. The event will get underway at 1 p.m.
