DES MOINES, Iowa – The No. 10-ranked Gannon women's wrestling team had four placewinners during Saturday's Grand View Open in Des Moines, Iowa. The Lady Knights were led by Anya Knappenberger (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) (130 lbs.) and Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) (136 lbs.), who both turned in third-place finishes in their respective weight classes.
 
Julianne Moccia (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) and Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) also turned in fifth-places finishes for the Knights at 109 and 170-pounds, respectively.
 
Knappenberger went 5-1 in her weight class, winning twice by decision, once by fall and once by technical fall. Knappenberger took third place after a no contest in her final bout. Perez went 6-1, including three technical falls and one fall in her first four bouts of the open tournament on Saturday. She also took third place following a no contest in her final bout.
 
Moccia went 4-2 on her way to a fifth-place finishes at 109-pounds. She recorded two victories by fall, and two others by technical fall during her impressive morning and afternoon. Helm went 3-2 at 170-pounds to give Gannon its fourth placewinner of the day. Helm won twice by decision and once by fall.
 
In all, Gannon recorded 13 falls and eight technical falls on Saturday at the Grand View Open. Despite not placing, Gannon's Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) led the Knights with three fall victories on the day. In the 143-pound bracket, Floor went 3-2. Perez led Gannon with three technical fall victories at the Grand View Open.
 
The Lady Knights will return to action next Saturday at the Bearcat Open, hosted by McKendree. It will be Gannon's final outing prior to the NCWWC Regional, which will be hosted by Gannon on Sunday, Feb. 20 in Erie.
