Curtis Named PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week for Second Time

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon University's Kory Curtis (Cape Coral, Fla./Island Coast) has been named the PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 43-36 upset of No. 11 Indiana (Pa.). The league announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon. The victory boosted Gannon to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC West, with the Golden Knights now tied with IUP and Slippery Rock for first place in the division.

The redshirt junior quarterback has now earned the accolade twice. He was previously recognized following his performance at Clarion. Gannon has had six different players earn PSAC Athlete of the Week honors this season. Chris Farnsworth (Bristol, Pa./Milton Hershey) has twice been named the Defensive Athlete of the Week, following the Edinboro and Charleston (WV) games. Nick White (Randallstown, Md./Milford Mill Academy) was honored as the Defensive Athlete of the Week a week ago after the Mercyhurst game. Antonio Wright (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) Jr. was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week for the Edinboro game. Eric Scarpino (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) and Matt Wiitanen (Renton, Wash./Pioneer) have been named the Special Teams Athlete of the Week, Scarpino following the Clarion contest and Wiittanen after the Millersville game.

Curtis was brilliant on Saturday, leading Gannon to its first win over a ranked opponent since a win over 14th-ranked Slippery Rock in 2011 and believed to be the highest-ranked team Gannon has ever beaten. The 6'4", 235 lb. native of Cape Coral, Fla. accounted for six touchdowns plus a 2-pt. conversion for 38 points in all. He completed four TD passes covering 14, 75, 55, and 8 yards along with touchdown runs of 10 and 1 yards. He scored the winning touchdown on a one-yard run with 5:09 remaining in the game. Curtis completed 23-of-28 passes for 342 yards and 4 TDs with 0 INTs, adding 9 yards rushing and 2 TDs. It was his fourth 300-yard game of the season. In addition, he returned to his punting duties after not doing it for several weeks due to an injury. He averaged 45.3 yards on three punts, including a career-best 65-yarder.

Gannon finished with 464 total yards, the most allowed by IUP this year, and the 43 points are most allowed in over 25 years by the Crimson Hawks. Gannon held the ball for 34 minutes and 29 seconds, was 8-of-14 on 3rd-down conversions, and did not commit a turnover.

Curtis moved into third place in career passing yards with 4,482 while playing in just 20 games. In addition, he has thrown for 41 career touchdowns which ranks third all-time behind Liam Nadler (82) and Darmel Whitfield (53). Curtis has thrown for 2,227 yards this season, just behind his 2021 total of 2,255 yards. That is good for eighth in a season. He has 21 TD passes and 3 INTs, standing in a tie for third for touchdown passes in a season. Nadler holds the record with 24 in 2015.

Gannon returns to action on Saturday, November 5 playing at California (Pa.). Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
