Gannon Looks Forward to Homestand Following Loss at #4/3 IUP

INDIANA, Pa. – After playing just two games at home in the month of January, the Gannon men's basketball team can look forward to finally returning to the Hammermill Center. Due to a makeup game on Monday night at Indiana(Pa.), the Golden Knights were forced to play the top two teams in the PSAC West on the road in a three-day period. After a heart-breaking last second loss at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, the Golden Knights suffered an 83-50 setback at IUP. The Crimson Hawks came in ranked fourth in the latest NABC Division II Top 25 and third in the D2SIDA poll and improved to 18-2 overall and 12-2 in the PSAC West. Gannon is now 9-7 and 6-6 in league play.

Gannon continues a busy week on Wednesday hosting local rival Edinboro. That's followed by two more home games vs. Seton Hill on Saturday and Pitt-Johnstown next Monday. Five of the next seven games will be played at the Hammermill Center, and all seven games will be played in Erie County.

The Golden Knights fell victim to an IUP squad that had a pair of big first-half runs. The Crimson Hawks used a 14-0 run to go up 24-6 less than eight minutes into the game. A 17-2 spurt later in the half helped IUP grab a 45-20 halftime lead.

Ike Herster (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) enjoyed a strong night for the Golden Knights as he is averaging 19.3 points over the last three games. The 6'6" redshirt freshman finished with 21 points, making 8 of 13 shots, including 3 of 6 3-pointers, and going 2-for-3 at the line. He also had a team-high six rebounds, as did Demetrius Mims (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) and Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan).

Braden Olsen (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) was the only other Golden Knight in double digits with 12 points on a 3-for-5 effort from the floor and 6 of 7 showing at the line.
Lance-Amir Paul (Kingston, Jamaica/Putnam Science Academy), Gannon's leading scorer coming in at 17.9 ppg., failed to reach double figures for the first time this season. The 6'0" guard went 6 of 6 at the line to total six points.

Ethan Porterfield and Armoni Foster were the only two Crimson Hawks in double figures, but the duo each scored 27 points and combined to make 10 of 15 3-pointers. IUP sizzled all night from beyond the arc, making 15 of 29 3-pointers. Porterfield led all rebounders with eight while Foster contributed eight assists.

Gannon ended the night shooting 27.3 percent from the floor (15 of 55), including 4 of 20 on 3-pointers. The Knights went 16 of 20 at the line. IUP shot 44.4 percent from the floor (28 of 63) and went 12 of 15 at the charity stripe.

In a game that featured two of the top three rebounding teams in the PSAC, IUP held a 43-34 advantage on the glass. Gannon committed 16 turnovers and IUP had 13.

Wednesday's game against Edinboro tips off at 7:30 p.m. at the Hammermill Center.
