LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon University linebacker
Keith Thompson (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) has been named to the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Football Player of the Week honor roll following his performance in Gannon's 56-21 homecoming win over Clarion on Saturday afternoon.
Thompson, a redshirt junior from Woodbridge, Va., keyed a strong defensive showing against the Golden Eagles and in the process got in on the scoring himself. With Clarion knocking on the door at the Gannon one on the first play of the second quarter, Thompson recovered a fumble caused by
Malachi Woody (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian Academy) and raced a school-record 99 yards in front of the Gannon sideline to score his first career touchdown. The score boosted Gannon's lead to 28-0.
The 5'9", 212 lb. linebacker ended the day with 4 tackles, including 0.5 TFL. He was part of a defensive effort that limited Clarion to 335 yards. Gannon came up with five takeaways on the afternoon. Thompson is currently tied for the team lead in tackle with 28 this season, including 1.5 TFL. Thompson has also forced a fumble this season.
The Gannon football team will return to action on Saturday afternoon with a road matchup at No. 25 Indiana (PA). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
