Blake, Greenfield Lead Standouts in Pair of Wins at Clarion Invitational

CLARION, Pa. – The Gannon women's volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the young season with a pair of impressive wins on the opening day of the Clarion Tournament. The Lady Knights needed just three sets to pick up wins over PSAC East foe Lock Haven (25-11, 25-11, 25-17) and Tiffin (25-12, 25-16, 25-14). They have now won five of their first six matches in three sets.

The Lady Knights will play twice on Saturday, as well. First up is an 11 a.m. match vs. Northwood, followed by a contest against Salem at 5 p.m. Northwood comes in at 5-0 after posting a pair of wins in four sets over Tiffin and Clarion.

Head coach Matt Darling was pleased with his team's play in the second weekend of the season. "We feel good about getting two wins today," he related, "and I give the team high marks for effort and attention to detail throughout the day.  Our performance against Lock Haven was noteworthy and remarkable in that we made only two attack errors in the match.  That level of execution is rare and difficult to achieve, and we feel good about that."

"There were some great individual  performances today, but that of Madde Blake (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) stands out."
