HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Vulcans struck first in the second frame after Josh Rankin connected on an RBI single into right field to make the score 1-0.  The Golden Knights quickly answered back in the bottom half after Tyler Mattocks (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) blasted single to left field to score Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), 1-1.
  • After two scoreless innings, Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) sparked Gannon with an RBI double deep into right center to steal the lead, 2-1. Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) added on insurance runs one frame later in the sixth blasting a momentum swinging three RBI triple into right center to increase the edge to 5-1. Evan Harrison (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Aloysius Gonzaga S.S) closed out the final inning notching two strikeouts to secure the 5-1 win.  
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon tallied 10 hits with five RBI.
  • Eight different players notched at least one hit.
  • Gagnon paced the Knights with two hits, including one triple. He also added a game-high three RBI and one run to his stat line.
  • Wetherholt went 2-for-3 at the plate.   
  • Harrison (2-0) picked up his second win of the season and fired a game-high four strikeouts over 3.0 innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jacob McCaskey set the tone for game two with home run down the left field line in the opening frame to put the Vulcans on top, 1-0. Kalbfus responded for the Knights in the bottom half to lock the contest, 1-1, with a single through the right side to score Gagnon.
  • Both pitchers then settled in as the game went scoreless for the next three innings until Louden Conte sent the Vulcans second home run of the day into left field to steal the lead, 2-1.
  • California threatened to crack the game open in the seventh frame loading up the bases, but Joseph Reitebach (Hamburg, N.Y. /Hamburg) worked his way out the of the jam to keep the Knights within one. Gannon was then able to get one runner on late in the seventh after Brandon Rea singled out to right field. However, Miguel Vega (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) then flew out to center field and the Knights dropped the 2-1 decision.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon notched seven hits as a team.
  • Gagnon contributed one run and one hit to pace the Knights.
  • Kalbfus delivered one RBI and one hit.
  • Judy (3-5) got the start and tossed six strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

  • Gannon will wrap up regular season play tomorrow at California (Pa.). The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
  • With one more win, Gannon will secure a spot in the PSAC Tournament, which will begin on Wednesday, May 12 with opponent and location yet to be determined.
