HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first inning, Gannon hopped on the board after capitalizing on an error to take a 1-0 lead.  Back-to-back singles into right field by Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) and Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) brought Lindsay Schmidt (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) to the plate.  The runners advance 60-feet on a wild pitch before Schmidt reached on a fielding error to score pinch runner Olivia Evans (Horseheads, New York/Horeseheads Senior High).
  • SHU took the lead as Alexis Vargas recorded an RBI double to even the score before Samantha Estupinian hit into right to put the Griffins ahead, 2-1.
  • The Golden Knights used two solo home runs to take their second lead of the game as Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) blasted a shot into opposite field before Ryan sent out her third homer of the season.  SHU immediately responded with two runs after taking advantage of a throwing error to make it 4-3.
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) put Gannon back on top with her 37th-career home run scoring Taliani from first after she singled up the middle.  Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) and Lakatos each walked before Ryan singled to load the bases.  DeMatteis came home on a wild pitch to extend the Knights lead to two but a fly ball into right field would end the threat.
  •  The Griffins evened the score at six all with a two-RBI single but was answered with two runs for Gannon to take an 8-6 lead in the top frame of the seventh. Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) singled to right before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lily Gfeller (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia).  Ryan hit up the middle to put runners on first and second before scoring on back-to-back singles by Hannah Neal (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) and Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon).
  • Gannon used nine pitches to shut SHU down 1-2-3 to secure the game one victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Seton Hill opened scoring with a two-run single by Alexis Vargas to take a 2-0 lead but was responded with Nicole Bush's (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) first collegiate home run as the senior sent one out down the left field line to bring the game within one.
  • Gannon's best look to even the score came in the fourth as Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) doubled into right field avoiding the diving play of Jenna Osikowicz but two consecutive outs ended the threat.
  • The Griffins doubled their lead with a two-run homer before Christiana Skrabak hit her own solo shot deep and out to make it 5-1.  A sacrifice fly into right would extend SHU's lead to five.
  • Taliani led off the bottom frame of the seventh with a single through the left side before Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) walked.  With one out, Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) hit into center field to load the bases but SHU's defense held the Knights to tie the series.
