Gannon Softball Falls to Seton Hill in PSAC Semifinals

GREENSBURG, Pa. –  The Golden Knights saw their PSAC postseason run come to an end after falling 4-1 to Seton Hill in game three of the semifinal series. 
 
The Griffins will host West Chester in a best-of-three championship series on Friday, May 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights opened scoring in the second after Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) walked on an 11-pitch at bat before moving to second on a bunt from Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau)Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) singled to load the bases to bring Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) to the plate. Ryan placed the ball into right field to score Stocker from third, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • Seton Hill evened the score with an RBI double off the left-center fence before capitalizing on a fielding error to get the go-ahead run.  Samantha Estupinian singled to left field to score bring in two additional runs to make it 4-1.
  • Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) led off the seventh with a double into left center, but the Griffins shut down the Knights offense to take the series.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Seton Hill outhit Gannon, 6-4 with three RBI
  • Four Knights recorded hits led by Ryan with one RBI
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) (14-9) was credited the loss, allowing one earned run with three walks and four strikeouts.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon made their 10th consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance
  • Seton Hill ranks sixth in the NCAA DII Regional Rankings
  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) went 5-for-9 (.556) in the semifinal series.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) earned her 40th career victory in game one against SHU while Stocker set a new program record with her 37th career home run.
  • The Knights are 67-39 (.632) under head coach Michelle Wiley.
