HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) got things started delivering an RBI double down the left field line to steal a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame. Wetherholt then added another run scoring as Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) reached on a fielder's choice to stretch the edge to 3-0. Tyler Mattocks (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) capped the big inning sending an RBI single through the right side to make the score 4-0.
  • After two scoreless frames, Pitt-Johnstown cut the deficit in half pushing across two runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Gannon answered right back after Alex Baldi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) doubled down the left field line allowing Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) to sprint home, 5-2. Wetherholt then connected on single to right field to score Baldi to stretch the edge to 6-2.
  • Gannon added on two more runs in the fifth stanza after Zeroski doubled into deep left center to score Kalbfus and push the edge to 8-2. The Mountain Cats attempted to rally as Dylan Broderick connected on a two RBI home run to right center to pull back within four, 8-4, in the seventh. However, the Gannon defense closed out the contest picking up the final two outs to snatch the 8-4 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon totaled 12 hits and eight RBI. Eight different players contributed at least one hit in the contest.
  • Baldi posted two hits, two runs and one RBI.
  • Zeroski tallied two hits, two RBI and one run.
  • Tre Thomas (Ambridge, Pa. /Ambridge Area) (4-2) posted his second complete game of the season with a game-high seven strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hess started things off in game two sending an RBI single into center field to make the score 1-0. Gannon then closed the first frame scoring its next two runs on a fielding error and a throwing error as Hess and Kalbfus got home to extend the edge to 3-0.
  • The Mountain Cats battled back to lock the contest, 3-3, in the third stanza after Lennox Pugh scored on an unearned run. The Knights quickly regained the lead, 4-3, after Brandan Rea (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillian) sent an RBI single down the right field line. Tyler Mattocks (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) followed it up reaching on a fielder's choice allowing Kalbfus to get across, 5-3.
  • Gannon continued to surge into the fourth adding on two more runs to stretch the lead up to four, 7-3, after Malecki flied out to right field to score Wetherholt. The Knights held the Mountain Cats scoreless over the next three innings to earn the win, 7-3.

  • With the win, Gannon improves to 12-1 at home this season.
  • As a team, Gannon posted eight hits and six RBI.
  • Hess paced the Knights going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and two RBI.
  • Gagnon contributed two runs, game-high two stolen bases and one hit.
  • Evan Harrison (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Aloysius Gonzaga S.S) (1-0) earned his first career win tossing two strikeouts over 3.0 innings of action.
