SCOUTING GANNON
  • Gannon will embark on the most unusual season in its history this spring, with five games against nonconference opponents on its slate after the fall season was pushed back and the PSAC schedule was canceled.
  • Gannon rang up 382 yards of offense against Davenport, outgaining the Panthers by 101 yards.
  • Since joining the PSAC prior to the 2008 season, the Golden Knights have put together an impressive 10-4 record against teams from outside the league. That mark will get put to the test this spring, with five games, all against nonconference competition.
  • Gannon and Davenport had never met on the football field prior to this spring season. They'll double up this weekend after meeting up in Erie on March 20. It's the first time that Gannon will face the same opponent twice in the same season in its history.
  • Quarterback Jimmy Keefe (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edward) is back after making 20 starts behind center over the past three years. The redshirt junior, who is in his fifth year with the program, stands fifth in program history with 3,743 passing yards, and fourth with 29 passing touchdowns.
  • Melvin Blanks (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) made the most of his career-high 23 carries in the opener against Davenport, rushing for a career-high 142 yards and a touchdown. The junior also added a career-high 58 receiving yards.
  • Against Tiffin, Michiah Burton (Columbus, Ohio/New Albany HS) was the lead back, getting 28 carries for 95 yards.
  • A quartet of defensive players form the experienced core of a unit that saw plenty of youth dot its ranks a year ago. Jay Bullock (Garfield Heights, Ohio/University School) and Malachi Woody (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian Academy) both started all but one game on the defensive front the past two seasons, while linebacker Keith Thompson (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) started 19 games in that same span. Senior defensive back Tre McNeill (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College HS) has 27 career games under his belt, and led the defense with 77 tackles a year ago.
  • Nicholas White (Randallstown, Md./Milford Mill Academy) has picked up a sack in each of his first two games of the season, and has posted 3.5 tackles for loss on the year.

SCOUTING DAVENPORT
  • The Panthers are coming off a 5-5 season in 2019 that saw them win their first three and final two games of the season.
  • Davenport had one of the stingier defense in the GLIAC in 2019, ranking in the top three in scoring defense (23.3) and total defense (303.8). They held Gannon to right around that score in their first meeting three weeks ago.
  • Starting quarterback Deondre Ford also returns
after throwing for 1,124 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games in 2019.
  • Davenport rushed for just 93.7 yards per game in 2019, but may get an boost there with the return of 2018 rushing leader Seth Acda, who posted 581 yards on the ground that season.

UP NEXT
  • The Golden Knights will continue its spring season next week with thier final road game, heading to Hillsdale April 17.
