HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon jumped out to a 9-5 edge after Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute) smashed a kill past the Laker defense. The two teams then exchanged points until Mercyhurst connected on back-to-back points to pull within three, 18-15. The Golden Knights responded closing the frame on 7-0 run featuring four service aces from Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) to win the frame, 25-15.
  • Both teams battled in the second frame to find themselves deadlocked at 13. The Knights then came alive with a momentum swinging 5-0 run to build a 18-13 edge after Madde Blake (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) connected on a kill. Gannon went on to close out the second set, 25-15.
  • After Mercyhurst stole a 7-5 advantage in the third stanza, Gannon took the next four points to regain the lead, 9-7, after a block by Greenfield and Kristin Schorr (Evansville, Ind./North Posey). The Lakers made one final surge to pull within one, 19-18, following an attack error. However, Gannon closed out the set on a 6-2 run to secure the 25-20 win and seal the match, 3-0.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon notched 61 digs, 32 kills and 20 assists.
  • Greenfield led the way on the on the offensive end with a team-high nine kills.
  • Valeria Torres (Gurabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) passed out a team-high 18 assists with eight digs.
  • Schorr notched a career-high 16 digs to go along with five kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercyhurst fought back in the second match jumping out a 6-4 lead. Gannon then regained the edge, 9-7, after Laura Bebinger (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) connected on a kill. The Knights then started to pull away opening up a six-point, 18-12, lead following a kill from Greenfield. Gannon won the first set, 25-15.
  • Both teams traded points late into the second frame to lock the contest, 20-20. Following a kill from Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington), Mercyhurst stole two quick points to take the lead, 22-21. Gannon then closed the frame on a 4-1 run highlighted by kills from Kaeli Kristensen (Calgary, Alberta/Dr. E.P. Scarlett) and Bebinger to capture the 25-23 win.
  • Gannon kept its foot on the gas into the third frame running out to a 7-3 lead after Greenfield delivered a kill. The Knights continued to roll from there increasing their lead up to nine, 19-10, following a kill from McClung. Gannon closed out the frame, 25-14, and the match, 3-0. 
GAME NOTES
  • With the wins, Gannon has notched 11 sweeps this season and improves to 15-0 overall. 
  • As a team, the Knights registered 39 kills and 35 assists.
  • Gannon also registered 70 or more digs for the third time this season with 71.
  • Torres tallied her second double-double of the season with a team-high 14 assists and 13 digs.
  • Lasher paced the Knights on the defensive end with a team-high 17 digs.
  • Bebinger connected on a team-high nine kills with six digs.

  • Gannon is back at home for senior day on Saturday hosting Carnegie Mellon at 2:00 p.m.
