HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) connected on an RBI double in the second inning, Slippery Rock answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to grab a 3-1 lead after Jon Kozarian delivered a two RBI single to center field.
  • Gannon pulled back within one, 3-2, after Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) sent a double down the left field line to score Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) in the third stanza. The Rock once again answered back in the fourth after Abraham Mow homered to increase the lead to 4-2.
  • Wetherholt retaliated with his second home run of the series into center field allowing Adam Melecki to get home and lock the contest, 4-4. However, Slippery Rock added on one more run in the fifth to steal the 5-4 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted 11 hits and four RBI.
  • Wetherholt went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI. He also connected on his third home run of the season and sixth of his career.
  • Gagnon went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and matched a season-high in hits.
  • Jacob Visha (Cleveland, Ohio/Trinity) got the start on the mound and tossed two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
  • Brandon Weber (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), Jimmy Colvin (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Marshal Murray also saw action on the hill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon pushed back in game two with two quick runs in the opening frame. Hess got the scoring started launching an RBI single into center to score Gagnon, 1-0. Malecki followed it up with another single allowing Wetherholt to get home and increase the edge to 2-0.
  • Slippery Rock battled its way back tacking on two runs in the second to steal the lead, 3-2, after Jon Kozarian sent an RBI double down the right field line. Hess answered for Gannon with a home run into left field to deadlock the contest, 3-3.
  • Following a scoreless fourth inning, Jon Kozarian homered to left center to help The Rock secure the 4-3 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted four hits and three RBI.
  • Hess went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and one run. Hess also connected on his second home run of the season to increase his career total to 17, which moves him into sole possession of third place on the Gannon all-time list.
  • Evan Harrison (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Aloysius Gonzaga S.S) got the start on the mound and tossed two strikeouts over 2.2 innings.
  • Kevin Schott (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny ) finished the final 3.1 innings and registered a team-high three strikeouts.

  • Gannon returns to action on Friday hosting Clarion at McConnell Family Stadium. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
