HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarion opened the first inning loading up the bases and scoring its first run of the day after Danny Fox was hit by a pitch. Eric Sapp (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) then settled in on the hill firing two strikeouts to escape the inning.
  • Adam Malecki (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) answered back in the bottom half of the first inning for the Golden Knights using a sacrifice fly into right field to score Miguel Vega (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) and tie the contest, 1-1. Seth Sanders (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Midview) followed it up delivering a three RBI double down the left field line to push the edge up to 4-1.
  • Following a scoreless second inning, Sanders continued is big day with a single to left center to score Adam Malecki (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and make the score 5-1 in the third frame. Gannon put the game away adding on two more runs in the fifth stanza after runs from Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) and Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) to make the score 7-2.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon tallied eight hits with seven RBI.
  • The Knights notched three stolen bases in the contest.
  • Sanders went 2-for-2 at the plate with a career-high five RBI.
  • Gagnon went 2-for-4 with two runs.
  • Sapp (4-1) picked up his third straight win on the mound going 5.2 innings with a team-high four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wetherholt got the Knights started in the second game using a ground out a second base to send Vega home to make the score 1-0.
  • Following a scoreless second inning, Gannon erupted for a four run third frame. Wetherholt was able to get home on a throwing error to push the lead to 2-0. Sanders then followed it up sending an RBI single up the middle to push the edge to 3-0. Jared Bielanin (Erie, Pa./McDowell) kept the energy going cracking his first career hit for an RBI through the left side before Mejia capped the inning scoring on a balk to expand the lead to 5-0.
  • Wetherholt put the game on ice for the Knights sending a double down the right field line, which allowed Gagnon to add an insurance run and seal the 6-0 win.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improved to 7-0 at home this season.
  • Wetherholt went 2-for-3 at the plate with a team-best two RBI and one run.
  • Gagnon also went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run.
  • Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) (1-0) earned his first win of the season going 6.2 innings with four strikeouts.
