HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) set the tone in game one crushing a home run to right field to make the score 1-0 in the first inning. 
  • Following a scoreless second stanza, Gannon erupted for a six-run third frame. Wetherholt once again came up big with an RBI single to first base to score Kyle Ives (Fox River Grove, Ill. /Cary-Grove Community), 2-0. Following an unearned run from Miguel Vega (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy), Seth Sanders (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Midview) and Luke Callahan (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) each added on two RBI doubles to push the edge up to 7-0.
  • The Rock responded in the fourth pushing two runs across to make the score 7-2 following a Vince Donato using a sacrifice fly to score Connor Hamiliton. Slippery Rock continued its late surge adding one more run in the sixth, but Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) came in to close out the final frame and secure the game one win for the Knights, 7-3.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon notched seven hits with two RBI.
  • Wetherholt went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs, two RBI and one home run. It marked his second home run of the season and fifth of his career.
  • Adam Malecki (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) also added in two hits with one run.
  • Eric Sapp (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) (3-1) picked up this third win of the season tossing a game-high eight strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
  • Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) finished the final inning with one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Slippery Rock fought back in game two establishing a 4-0 edge after adding two runs in the third and fourth frames.
  • Gannon then came alive in the fifth inning with five run inning. After the Knights were able to load up the bases, Sanders scored following a walk to make the score 4-1. Vega followed it up grounding out the first base to score Callahan and cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
  • Malecki came up with a momentum swinging two RBI single to right center to lock the contest up, 4-4. Wetherholt was then able to crack a double down the left field line to send Malecki home to steal the lead, 5-4.
  • Slippery Rock attempted to rally in the seventh inning getting two runners on, but Marshall Murray (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) closed the contest out on the mound to help the Knights complete the sweep, 5-4.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon tallied five hits and five RBI.
  • Malecki posted a team-high two RBI with one run and one hit.
  • Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) registered a team-best two hits.
  • Tre Thomas (Ambridge, Pa. /Ambridge Area) (1-2) picked up his first career win in his home debut throwing a team-best five strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
  • Cory Burroughs (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) made his first appearance of the season on the mound.
  • Murray finished the final inning earning his first career save with one strikeout.
