HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pitt-Johnstown threatened to crack the game open in the third inning getting three runners on, but Deven Judy (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) settled in striking out the next two batters to help keep the contest scoreless.
  • Gannon attempted to get a run across late in the sixth frame as Alex Baldi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) put down a bunt single to the pitcher. However, Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) then grounded out to second base to end the frame.
  • The Mountain Cats came alive in the bottom half of the seventh frame as Lennox Pugh connected on a walk-off home run to left center to seal the 1-0 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area), Tyler Mattocks (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) and Baldi each delivered one hit for the Golden Knights.
  • Judy (3-4) went 6.1 innings on the hill for Gannon and tossed seven strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) set the tone in game two smashing his first home run of the season over the left field fence to put Gannon out in front, 1-0, in the second inning. Following a Pitt-Johnstown run in the bottom half of the second, Wetherholt launched his fourth home run of the season to right field. The three RBI shot helped the Knights regain the lead, 4-1.
  • After Adam Malecki (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) added a run in the third frame, Gannon erupted with a five-run fifth inning to stretch its edge into double digits, 10-1. Gagnon highlighted the frame sending an RBI single into center field to score Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) to make the score 10-1.
  • The Knights kept their foot on the gas pouring in five more insurance runs over the sixth and seventh innings. Zeroski capped the stretch connecting on his fifth double of the season to left center to score Jorge Mejia (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) to extend the lead to 15-1. Gannon went on to close out the contest and earn the road split, 15-2.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon registered season-highs in runs scored (15), hits (16), RBI (12) and home runs (2).
  • The Knights' 15 runs were the most in a single game since Gannon scored 17 at Clarion on March 29, 2019.  
  • 10 different Knights tallied at least one hit.
  • Kalbfus paced the Knights with a career-high four runs to go along with two hits, one RBI and one home run. It marked his first home run of the season and fifth of his career.
  • Wetherholt contributed a season-high three RBI with two hits, including one double and one home run. It marked his team-leading fourth home run of the season and seventh of his career.
  • Malecki went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and one RBI.
  • Bejamin Visnesky (2-0) got the start on the mound and threw a team-high five strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work. 
UP NEXT
  • Gannon will close its series with Pitt-Johnstown tomorrow at McConnell Family Stadium. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
